Do you track me?
If you opt in, we load Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, visits, and referring sites. We send the page path without its query string, the page title, and the referring site's origin rather than its full URL. We do not send subscriber email addresses or user IDs to Analytics. If you decline, its tag does not load.
Advertising storage, ad user data, and ad personalization are denied. We do not use an advertising network or use these measurements to target ads. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track prevent the Analytics tag from loading even if you previously opted in.
Do you use cookies?
Only after you allow Analytics may Google Analytics set analytics cookies. We store your analytics choice in your browser's local storage. The reading-preferences panel likewise stores text size, contrast, and motion choices locally. Those preference values are not sent to us.
Use the “Analytics choice” control at the bottom of the page to change your choice. Declining stops further Analytics events and clears site analytics cookies we can reach. Clearing site data in your browser also removes your saved choice.
What about fonts and images?
Fonts and article images are served from this domain. Existing photos were downloaded at build time; new licensed images and share cards are stored in Firebase Storage and served through the site.
What about the headline ticker?
The ticker shows recent federal rulemaking from the Federal Register. Your browser requests it from this site, and this site fetches it from the Federal Register. Your IP address is never exposed to federalregister.gov.
What does get logged?
Firebase App Hosting and its Google Cloud infrastructure process standard request data, including IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect the service. This happens regardless of your Analytics choice. We do not combine infrastructure logs with newsletter addresses or use them to profile readers.
If you opt in, Google Analytics processes visit data under its own retention settings. We use aggregate reports to judge which coverage is useful. Search Console search clicks are reported separately.
What about links out?
We link to government sources constantly. Once you follow a link, you are on someone else's site under their privacy practices, not ours.
Links in labeled Rehost sponsor modules include campaign parameters identifying Federal Weekly and the placement you clicked. They do not include your email address, name, or another personal identifier. We do not run a Rehost script, advertising pixel, or third-party tracker on this site.
What does the newsletter collect?
If you join the Weekly Brief, we store the email address you enter, the signup placement, the time of signup, a random confirmation token, and a pending subscription status in server-only Firebase Firestore. We do not sell or share the list. Email delivery is not active yet, so new addresses remain pending until confirmation email is available.
Do you sell or share personal information?
No. We do not sell reader information or share it with advertising networks. Firebase and Google Analytics process the limited data described above to operate and measure the site.
What happens if this changes?
We will update this page before adding advertising technology or any materially broader collection. The date above shows when this policy last changed.
