What’s proposed
LA ART proposes an aerial gondola from Union Station to Dodger Stadium with an intermediate station at the southern edge of Los Angeles State Historic Park. Metro says the system is designed for a trip of roughly seven minutes and a maximum capacity of 5,000 passengers per hour in each direction. The sponsor is private; Metro is the lead agency for environmental review.
Why it matters
Few Los Angeles proposals are as legible in one image: gondola cabins floating over the freeway and neighborhoods toward the stadium. The project also sits at the center of a serious policy argument about construction impacts, parkland, game-day traffic, and whether a privately promoted transit line delivers a public benefit equal to its footprint.
Approval status
Court review required more noise analysis
After Metro certified the original environmental document, litigation resulted in a court-directed supplemental review focused on construction noise. That is why an earlier approval did not end the CEQA process.
